The excess glucose in the blood damages various organs and parts of our body. Most of the damages can be irreversible and severely curtail the quality of life. having insulin like activity is reported. Report also indicates that the

by stimulation of glycogen synthesis in the liver. The lectins of Momordica
Charantiamay be advantageously employed in the treatment
of adult-onset diabetes to control both blood sugar levels and patient
weight. Momordica lectin produced weight loss in addition
to hypoglycemia by crossing the blood-brain barrier and binding to insulin
receptors in the brain"
3. United States Patent Number: 5980902 A method
for treating diabetic patients, comprising administering a composition
isolated from the leaves of Gymnema sylvestre.(a
herb in DIABOHILLS)
The present invention provides oral hypoglycemic agents comprising an extract of the leaves of Gymnema sylvestre. These compositions and their analogs and derivatives are effective for treatment and prevention of type 1 and type 2 diabetes and impaired glucose tolerance. Methods for the preparation of biologically active extracts of Gymnema sylvestre are also disclosed. The compositions of the present invention are also useful for treating hyperlipidemic, elevated triglyceride and free fatty acid conditions resulting from diabetes, modulating the auto immune reaction responsible for the destruction of the pancreatic islet and beta cells, and increasing the endogenous levels of insulin, c-peptide, amylase and lipase. One hundred patients diagnosed with impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) (Type 2 Diabetes) based on glucose tolerance tests were administered 5 grams of DIABOHILLS twice a day before major meals for 4 months. The age and gender of each of the patients and the fasting blood glucose levels at 0, 1, 2,3 and 4 months following treatment with DIABOHILLS are shown in the table below. Treatment with DIABOHILLS resulted in significant reductions in fasting blood glucose levels in all cases. These patients did not take any other medications for diabetes apart from normal control over a diet and reasonable physical activity. Fasting
